Looking for information on Samuel McCracken.
Apparently they came from Scotland and moved to Ireland. It was a large family of possibly 18 Children.
John's father was said by John's children to have been a publican and there are indeed records in the Belfast Street Directories of a Samuel McCracken being a publican at 43 Carrick Hill, Shankill in 1852 and in 1861 a Mary McCracken was a publican at 47 Carrick Hill - perhaps this was Samuel's widow.
Unfortunately, as yet, our researcher in Ireland has not been able to find a record of a John McCracken being born to a Samuel in Belfast anywhere around that time - the search continues!
